Pet Photo Contest
Is your pet photogenic and full of character? Then take part in our first-ever Pet Photo Contest, a fundraiser sponsored by The Friends of the Library! For more info, check out our "Friends News" tab on the website's homepage and download the "Pet Contest Entry Form" on the right-hand side! Submissions accepted now through Saturday, Oct. 14.
Jen Overton Appointed as New Library Director
The Roseland Free Public Library Board of Trustees has promoted Jen Overton, former Children's Librarian, to the position of Library Director. She has worked as an elementary teacher in her native Texas, where she also studied Applied Learning and Development, Educational Psychology, and Information and Library Science. We congratulate Jen and look forward to her exciting plans for the library and our community!
Pokemon Card Game
Bring your cards and your friends and play the Pokemon card game with us this Thursday, Sept. 21, at 4 pm. Trade your cards, too!
Filmmaker Erik Almquist
West Caldwell filmmaker Erik Almquist presents his short film, The Great Unknown, followed by a discussion on Friday, Sept. 22, at 7 pm. This award-winning film is seen through the eyes of a young filmmaker who learns she is going blind.
Teen Open Mic Night!
Kids in grades 6 through 12: Bring your musical instruments and jam! Sing a song! Show off your performance talent during a fun open mic event on Wednesday, Sept. 20, from 4 to 5 pm. Amps will be available, but participants will be encouraged to bring their own.
YA Star Wars Trivia
Middle and high school students, test your Star Wars knowledge and possibly take home a prize! Join us at 4 pm on Wednesday, September 27, at 4 pm.
Descendants Takeover Night
Disney's Descendants are all the rage! Inspired by popularity of these movies, the library is hosting a Descendants-themed Takeover Night for kids ages 7 and up on Friday, Sept. 29, from 5 to 9 pm. Enjoy pizza and other treats, a scavenger hunt, the Descendants films, and other fun games!
Fall T'ai Chi Chih
Fall T'ai Chi Chih runs every Tuesday through Nov. 28 (note: no class on Election Day, Nov. 7). Beginning students arrive at 9:30 am, followed by more advanced students at 10:30 am. $70 for all 10 weeks. For more information, contact Lee Bergman at leebergman7@hotmail.com.
Adult Yoga Every Wednesday
We offer Adult Yoga classes on a WEEKLY basis, every Wednesday at 10:30 am with certified instructors Taryn and Kristin, who will alternate instruction. Call to RSVP.
Adult Meditation Classes
Join us on these Thursdays of Mindfulness: September 21 at 7 pm and October 12 at 10 am. Call to RSVP.
Matinee Mondays
Join us every Monday at 1 pm for a different movie and popcorn! Next film: Gifted on September 25. Movie is rated PG-13, and runs for 41 minutes. Popcorn will be served. No RSVP needed.
1,000 Books Before Kindergarten
Congratulations to our patron, 5-year-old Giovanni Vigilante, for successfully completing our 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten challenge! We wish you the best of luck as you start school, and always keep on reading!
Wanted: Graphic Novels & Comic Books
We are currently accepting donations of comic books and graphic novels for patients at the Essex County Hospital Center, a psychiatric facility in Cedar Grove. Please bring your donations to the circulation desk during our regular hours.
Roseland Library Book Club
Our Book Club has announced its September selection: One Thousand White Women by James Fergus. This historic fiction novel takes an inside look at the controversial Brides for Indians program of the 1800s. The group will meet on Wednesday, September 27, at 7:15 pm for a discussion.
Museum Passes Available
Patrons can borrow passes for themselves and/or their families for The Newark Museum, Montclair Museum, Morris Museum, and (coming soon) the NY Transit Museum and Imagine That!
